It is almost definitely a viral marketing scheme for Wikipedia, with every 'What is this?' query taking you to that thing's wiki-page, but that's cool with me, because Wiki is awesome.
It's pretty addictive, despite being somewhat boring and repetitive, but you do get put in some pretty difficult positions when deciding between certain things. For example, I had to make a call which was more awesome, BB Guns or the Tiananmen Square Protests. I went with BB Guns. And how about this one; Fire, or Trench Warfare. That was a toughie, but Trench Warfare won out on the day.
Some are not so tough. Plumbing Vs. Rihanna for example.
